The Team

Four people shape every production and training day at kowziro, from the first call on a breaking story to the final edit that goes to air.

Team

The people behind each story

Producers, a director of shoots, a workflow trainer and an editor make up the core of kowziro. Each one has a clear job, so broadcasters and students always know who they are working with.

How we work

Roles that keep a story moving from shoot to screen

Helen Marlowe leads kowziro as Managing Director and sets the standard for every production that leaves the building. Before founding the company in 2014 she produced regional television news, so she knows what a duty editor needs at five in the afternoon: a clean picture, a clear story and a file that opens first time.

Daniel Ashworth, Head of Video Production, directs shoots and edits for urgent stories. He also teaches camera technique for breaking news in the classroom, which means the advice students hear about framing, light and sound comes from someone who has just been out doing it.

Priya Nair designs and delivers newsroom workflow training. Her sessions follow a story from planning and ingest through the editing queue to handover, and they are built around the way a real newsroom shares work between producers, editors and reporters on a busy day.

Tom Pritchard, Senior Editor, cuts and packages news items to broadcast standards. He keeps quality high when the clock is short, checking pictures, captions and audio levels before anything is delivered, so that a late story still looks and sounds like a considered one.

Because the team is small, the person who talks through your brief is usually the person who does the work. Handovers between colleagues are short and written down, and a client does not have to repeat themselves each time a new stage of a project begins.

Daniel and Tom turned a rough afternoon shoot into a finished item that our evening bulletin could run. They were calm, clear about what they needed and delivered exactly when promised.
