What we produce and teach
Breaking News Video Production
Filming and editing of urgent stories on tight deadlines. We shoot on location, cut quickly and deliver in broadcast-ready formats so your programme can transmit without further conversion.
Services →
Camera Technique Workshops
Classroom sessions covering framing, lighting and audio for live and breaking stories. Participants handle cameras themselves and review their own footage with an instructor.
Services →
Newsroom Workflow Training
Training for editors and producers on story planning, ingest, editing queues and handover. We work through the points where news items usually stall and agree simple habits to prevent it.
Services →
Field Reporting Kit Coaching
Practical coaching on compact cameras, tripods, microphones and mobile kit for single-person crews. Reporters learn to set up quickly and get usable pictures and sound alone.
Services →
Post-Production and Edit Suites
Editing, captioning and packaging of news items for television transmission. Our edit suites suit teams without spare capacity, with careful checks before anything leaves the building.

Built around the pace of a newsroom
News video is judged on accuracy, speed and craft. Those three values shape how we shoot, how we cut and how we teach, whether the client is a broadcaster or a class of journalism students.
ServicesQuick turnaround
Urgent stories are filmed and edited with the transmission slot in mind, so material reaches you when your running order needs it.
Accuracy first
Captions, names and facts are checked before delivery. Speed never replaces a final read of what the viewer will see.
Craft in the detail
Steady framing, clean audio and sensible lighting come from habit. We teach and practise those habits on every shoot.
Training from practitioners
Our trainers come from production and editing work, so sessions use real newsroom situations rather than abstract theory.
Production and training under one roof in Taunton
kowziro began in 2014 with a simple idea: the people who shoot and cut news under pressure are best placed to teach it. Helen Marlowe, who produced regional television news before founding the company, still sets the standards for every production we deliver.
Our production side handles stories that cannot wait. Daniel Ashworth directs shoots and edits, and Tom Pritchard packages items to broadcast standards. The aim is footage that is steady, well exposed and recorded with clean sound, so that editors downstream spend their time on the story.
Our training side grew from the same work. Camera technique workshops and field reporting kit coaching help crews of one or two people produce usable material alone, while Priya Nair's newsroom workflow sessions look at how stories move from planning to final delivery.
Clients include television news teams, broadcasters and journalism students across the UK. Sessions can be shaped around the equipment, software and routines you already use, rather than asking you to adopt a method that does not fit your building.
If you are unsure whether you need production, training or a mix of both, the contact page is the place to start. Describe the story, the team and the timetable, and we will reply with what we think fits and what it would cost.
The process
From first enquiry to delivered work
Each project starts with a conversation about what you need and when. We do not apply a fixed template. The steps below show how most production and training work proceeds, from the first message through to the final delivery or session.
Send an enquiry
Use the contact form to describe the story or the training need, who is involved, where it takes place and when you need it. A short note is enough, and we ask questions if anything is unclear.
What you leave with
A reply from us with follow-up questions or a suggested way forward.
Agree the scope
We confirm what is included, such as crew, editing, formats, captions or session content, and what would change the cost. Nothing starts until the scope is written down and you are happy with it.
What you leave with
A written quotation or confirmation covering scope and price.
Prepare and plan
For production we settle access, contacts and delivery format. For training we agree the group, the kit and the examples to use, so time on the day goes on practice rather than setup.
What you leave with
A short plan for the shoot, edit or session.
Shoot, edit or teach
Our crew films and cuts, or our trainer runs the session with your team. We check captions, names and audio as we go, and we keep you informed if anything changes on the day.
What you leave with
Finished news items, or a completed workshop or coaching session.
Deliver and invoice
We hand over material in the agreed formats, or leave notes for the team after training. An invoice follows, paid by bank transfer under our payment and refund policy.
What you leave with
Delivered files or session notes, and an invoice for payment.
Frequently asked questions
These answers cover what people most often ask before getting in touch. If your question is not here, send it through the contact page and we will reply.
Who do you work with?
Mostly television news teams, broadcasters and journalism students across the UK. We also work with newsroom managers who want their editors, producers or reporters to share a clearer way of working. If you are unsure whether we are a fit, describe your situation through the contact form and we will say honestly.
Can you film a breaking story at short notice?
Yes, that is the core of our production work. Tell us the location, the deadline and the format you need, and we will say whether we can cover it. Availability depends on the crew at the time, so we confirm before committing and never promise a slot we cannot staff.
Where do the workshops and coaching take place?
Sessions can run at our base in Taunton or at your own newsroom or college, depending on the group and the kit involved. Working on your own equipment is often the most useful, because people learn the cameras and software they will actually use afterwards.
Do you train beginners as well as experienced staff?
Yes. Journalism students often start from very little camera experience, while newsroom staff may need a refresh or a shared standard. We set the level when we agree the scope, and trainers adjust the pace and examples to the people in the room.
What formats do you deliver in?
We deliver broadcast-ready files in the formats your transmission or playout system requires. Please tell us the technical specification when you enquire, and we will confirm that we can meet it. Captioned versions can be supplied as part of post-production if you ask for them.
How is pricing worked out?
Prices depend on the service, the time involved and any travel or special requirements. The Prices page sets out what each service costs and what is included. For anything bespoke, we send a written quotation before work begins so there are no surprises.
How do I order and pay?
Send an enquiry through the contact page. We reply with a written quotation or confirmation, and once the work is done we send an invoice, which is paid by bank transfer. Nothing is bought on the website itself, and cancellations follow our payment and refund policy.
Can you work with our existing editing software?
In most cases yes. Workflow training is shaped around the systems you already use, whether for ingest, editing queues or handover. Tell us what your team works with when you enquire, and we will say how the session would be organised around it.
